I was just {minutes ago} sitting in the stands eating sushi with chopsticks and watching my Father play softball. The lights over the field had just come on, the scene was lovely and surreal...
A lady, drinking a sweaty beer, a stand away asked which player was mine.
I pointed "That's my Dad."
My eyes filled with tears. I was so, so proud. He is an amazing man, not perfect, but fabulous and amazing. Inspiring.
Her eyes filled with tears when she saw mine...
We laughed and wiped our eyes.

Last night I went to the gym...

I walked in on jittery legs...Nerves, I guess.

With an old {from 2008 when I went to the gym everyday...} workout planned in my notebook.
A leg routine. A very hard and heavy leg routine.
And I did it. I did it well.
I was dripping with sweat...
I haven't lost much in strength but have in endurance.
I need to get strong...Very strong.
I am not sure what my plans are for the the future, but if a trade is in there, I want to be known as the girl who can lift as much {or more than} the guys...
And so it has started.

I walked out on proud jittery legs...Exhaustion, I know.

I was invited to a very important family birthday party today...

Good Morning...

In squashing my disappointment, licking my wounds, I accomplish much...
A room gutted of extra.
Drawers emptied and filled.
Ill fitting bagged for charity. Ruined torn to rags, therapeutic.
Red~ish roots dyed redder.
Photos edited and culled...Oh so painful to delete near perfect photos but essential.
A freezer emptied and cleaned. Now bare, to be filled today with goodness...
Lavender pruned, just to smell the heavenly scent.

Today I will be doing much of the same...Bringing lightness.

I am setting up my easel in front of the picture window...It's been a very long time since I've painted. I may need paint...I am anxious. I am happy.

A Weekend to Pretend...
~that I'm not sick all the time
~that I'm feeling social
~that I'm not disappointed with myself {more later...}
~that I'm a beach babe ;p

My Best and her Brother are taking me out of town for the weekend. His band are playing Friday night in the festival, Eastport~a~Rockin'. About a 3 hour drive from my back door, Eastport has one of few sandy beaches in Newfoundland...Saturday night brings another show in another town, Botwood. I know nothing yet of this second night...I trust the hands I am in! On Sunday we go to the beautiful town of Bonavista for Jiggs Dinner*, the traditional Newfoundland scoff, with his very soon to be in-laws. Then home again that night. I am happy to be a roadie for awhile...

My Best Friend and I plan to try every lemon meringue pie we see, drink copious amounts of coffee, play a game or two of travel Scrabble and take tons of photos...We've bought a huge tiki umbrella and lounge chairs for the beach and plan to soak as much fun out this as possible!

Although I've been sick all spring and summer I have learnt so much and met so many wonderful people...I imagine if I had been well it would have been just phenomenal!

What are your plans for the weekend? Anything fun or exciting?

The good news...
The camera, lens and film {Fuji Super HQ 200 & Fuji Superia X-TRA 400} are perfect!!!

The bad news...
My photography skills are very rusty! I need to practice manual focus and framing...I need to get some neutral density filters I think. The shutter speed on my Pentax KM only goes to 1000 and with the ability, and the desire, to use a wide aperture {f 1.4} it's too bright much of the time...

So here are a few...

I think being stomach sick for so long has made me a little obsessive about food!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
I spent the entire time with friends...I even ate {and taste tested various red wines} and did not get sick. It was good. I hope I am on the mend!

Thinking as I was eating a wonderful supper {maple garlic salmon; caesar salad; baguette; a nice riesling; caramel apple pie sundaes; excellent coffee} with a wonderful friend about how lucky I am to be born in Newfoundland. To be able to eat and laugh and enjoy living {if temporarily ill} while so many are not, and never will...I am thinking of Somalia. Those children who never get a chance...
What can One do?

Getting so sick of this sickness...

No, no bitterness here. No none at all.
I love missing Life.
I love lying in bed all day while my film slowly expires...
While the sun shines I lay in the dark, coolness of my basement bedroom trying to keep the world from spinning and swimming before my eyes. Trying to keep the food in my gut. Trying to keep tears of self pity off my pillows....
Before I eat something I assess it's "pain in coming back up" factor. No raw carrots, no granny smith apples, no spicy or doughy things...Now I understand the value of soft bland food to those really ill...I am starting to wonder about my tooth enamel.

Oh dear. I'm writing about vomiting on my blog! Heh. Things are truly going downhill aren't they?

So I was feeling much better last weekend and decided it time to head back to school with renewed vigor...A desire to grab hold of everything presented to me...Squeezing the last juices from the last month of the program...

Then Monday night I got really, really sick...I've been vomiting, dizzy and headachy for three days now...
I said to my best friend last night on the phone..."This whole Spring/Summer I have been 'crazy' or sick..." She's not doing much better either, poor thing...

I was wondering how has your Spring/Summer been so far? What have you done?

I have watched a record amount of movies {really liked this one, and this, and this one too...} and it must be said that I am not a movie person.
I have read nothing* for the very first time since I was five.
I've done nothing to the house in a few weeks {3? 4?}...
I've taken very few photos. I did, however, load film into my "new" Pentax last night. I am so happy to have that camera! I can't wait to see what she gives me!
Last night I was out to get some air and some shots of the fantastic moon but had to come home again. I was seeing two moons, figured it was me and that I hadn't unknowingly moved to Mars...Pretty but disconcerting...

It seems this is the "Summer to Undo Me"...Perhaps there's a novel in there...I have two pieces from the last two months that would be better {worse?} than most fiction! Alas sharing in "real time" would be beneath me. But a story of fiction...Now that would be something else entirely wouldn't it?

Anything better than fiction happening with you? Comments are a safe venue for sharing! ;P

On Breaking...

This week has been HARD. The kind of hard only the truly struggling tend to understand, many of you, I suspect, will understand.
I contemplated a wee post for this blog on Thursday...
It would have read...

here. I wish you all the best...

Completely based on my real life of course because in here, in this space, I am quite satisfied. I love my commenter's, my readers, the wonderful souls who have reached out through the words to add real tangible value/things to my life...

While I won't go into the very gory details I had a complete meltdown, and worse I broke a promise to myself...And now I am embarrassed, and lost, and angry, and feeling weary of myself...How do we build back that broken trust? How can I believe myself ever again? Am I worth the risk?

Yes. Not a nice post. But not a quitting post either...
We shall have to see...
I am rebuilding and that pisses me off. I thought "all this" was past...
I'll let you know how it goes....

I did not know...

There really is no cure for the summertime blues.

I thought that this year would be different. Since so many aspects of me and my life are different. Very different from the way they've been for the last 6 or more years...I foolishly thought Mr. Blue would pass on by this year...Last year he pitched his tent in my livingroom but left shortly after...I was overjoyed to see the back of him...

It seems I woke up next him {Mr. Blue} last week and have been unable to get free since...I wonder if my hives came from Blues presence in my bed?

No interest. No patience. The heaviness, the desire to sleep yet laying pie eyed in the bed...Welcome home Mr. Blue. How long?

At Long Last...

I have finished London : The novel.
I loved it.
Spanning over two thousand years it was half historical and half anthropological, resulting in a very interesting and enlightening read.
If you are up to putting in the time {it is over 1100 pages, small type...} I highly recommend it.
With the start of school and the early rise my late night reading has virtually stopped. So it took me a long time, about two months!

I've been painting and cleaning these last few days and I can see the end is near for the living room! Yippee! So the iMac will be set up again soon and then...Well, who knows what could happen? Well, actually I'll be doing the kitchen then. Which still involves the dreaded sanding of the plaster! Ugh. I will NEVER be a plasterer and painter. I hate it.
So expect to see before and afters of the living room soon.

Last night I had the strangest dream...
I had a huge lovely farm and was in a gigantic barn with a lot of animals. {This is the dream portion!!!}
I had hundreds of tiny baby chicks. {Always wanted some layers...}
They were hatching from jelly beans...
The other animals were eating the beans and I was frantically running about gathering cracking/hatching jelly beans...Stuffing my pockets and holding them in my arms, afraid of breaking them while trying to save them...

UGH.
I woke up drenched in sweat.

Any dream interpreters out there?

I See: A rewarded effort...I set a goal for losing and have lost. Just a smidge but a nice start...
Things that call to me, when my camera is left behind. The cold rainy morning followed by a warm dry afternoon made ethereal ribbons of mist climb into the sky...
A dead mouse, left on my bed by Ms. Drooke as my weekend present. What a thoughtful girl she is!

I Hear: Driving home from classes today this was playing...LOUD!

I Taste: A cupcake and tea. Yesterday's wish was granted today except I wasn't laying about in bed...

I Feel: Sore muscles...And it is good.

Brumes a Burning...

Are you a creative type?

Can you feel it when the smothering brume of artists block starts to burn off? What does it feel like to You?

It's a crazy feeling for me...Anticipation, anxiety. An overflow unto the page, in margins, sticky notes~to~self, wee designs in the square of my calender day...
Sadly the more I have to do the more creative I get.
Months of nothing scheduled left me with nothing much...
I've always considered myself the solitary type. In most aspects I am, being around people can be exhausting to my psyche. Unusually it also stokes my creative fire...I've been mad to create but have little time and less resources {creative accoutrement still packed in boxes awaiting the end of renovations, still undone, and now even less time to them too...A terrible circle of circumstance...}
And so I've played all night with Picnik, when I have better things, more productive things, to do...

I could happily spend hours creating these little cameras...But I won't. There is lunch to pack, dishes to wash, papers to organize, math to study, WHMIS certification to do, floors to vacuum, a cat to cuddle, a great book to read...And that's the short list!

Do answer my question...

Five Senses Friday

I See: Two days of doing just what I wish...No schedule! Sprouts and shifting earth...Comfy plaid shirt and boot cut jeans...Silver rings and sturdy boots. A cool vintage belt buckle...Going out for Fish and Chips!

I Hear: A wee increase in traffic passing...It is Friday night downtown!

I Taste: Nothing...Saving my appetite for the fish, chips, tartar sauce and slaw...

I Touch: Keyboard and the softness of Ms. Drooke.

I Smell: "Fleur de Corail"~ a tiny mist in the air that I walk through is about all I can handle...Daily I wear a combination of lavender and peppermint essential oil because it is fairly safe, healthy, and okay for scent free areas...This stuff is heady and strong even worn as I do...I think it'll soon be cast to my Mom...

6th Sense...
My Intuition Tells Me This...
Be VERY careful. Welding isn't the only place to get burnt!
{Which I did. From my friends flying sparks...Funnily, I've called her sparky since long before welding class... :)}

When we open spaces, physical and mental, it certainly creates a vacuum...
What fills the space opened is up to us.
When we discard {whatever form that takes, hopefully through donation and recycling} and pare down, nature gives us something wonderful to work with, time. Simplifying simply equals more time.
More time to focus on what truly fills you...with happiness.

Five Senses Friday {Afternoon Edition...}

I See: Avocado...I bit into my wrap and the spinach decided to stay intact and act as a sling shot, flinging bits of avocado and grainy mustard everywhere...Amusing, though not fun! In my garden, where I spent the whole afternoon, signs of life and the HUGEST lovely earthworm. It is so amazing out there right now. A thing on the cusp of becoming a greater thing...

I Hear: Leaves, on the wind, crashing into each other as they dance and swirl through the air...A dozen or so got caught in my curls...What an interesting sound and look...

I Taste: My wrap, a chai tea latte and am anticipating a late supper, perhaps with a new friend!

I Touch: Gardening gloves were on my hands until Mr. Earthworm showed up. They were promptly thrown aside so I could hold him, fully tactile...He was cool and silky and sturdy...So now I have a black tip French manicure ;)...Just for a another minute or so and then I 'll be touching soap and a scrub brush!

I Smell: Lavender...I dropped the bottle this morning, while dabbing my wrists and it still pervades the room. A granny ghost...Also, spicy chai and Earth. What a marvelous combo!

6th Sense...
My Intuition Tells Me This...I am on the right path and to avoid giving away my energy to anything/one unworthy. I suggest the same for you, be vigilant!

Late Night

It is 11:30 pm, -4°C and I just put two loads of laundry on the line...
It was awesome.

I love using the clothesline. I love night. I love clean laundry. I love the stars in the sky. I love the contrast of the hot clothes on palm, the cold air on opisthenar...Wisps of white steam blocking the celestial view. Tomorrow when I get up {I plan to sleep in until 10:30am or so} to the forecasted 9°C, the clothes should be dry and smelling fresh. :) A sense of accomplishment before my day even starts...

Life is good.
Very good indeed.

Curled up in bed watching this...
Reading more of this...Which is excellent and very interesting.
Staying up really late because I want to and there is no class tomorrow!

School is EXCELLENT. Truly. I couldn't be more pleased!
The Women in my class are brilliant. We range in age from 22 to 48. We have very diverse backgrounds, education and lives...We are all capable, supportive, intelligent, talented and strong. I am looking forward to seeing where we all go from here...
I am still leaning towards becoming a Machinist. I will have to move away for a year to do the training but I am fine with that...The area, about 130km from my home, is beautiful and will be wonderful for photography! Though I dread renting again...

How has your week been? Anything exciting?

Sorry I have not been visiting but I am so busy with school and keeping a regular schedule...It is wonderful and tiring...After next week I should be able to do the things that keep my life balanced, which includes visiting you, taking photographs, reading and writing...And snuggling with Ms. Drooke. She is not a happy cat this week! ;)

Weekend Light Fantastic...

I start classes today if everything works out properly...A four month Orientation to the Trades. :)
By this time next year I may be a plumber, carpenter, mason, electrician, machinist*...or just what I am today if it doesn't pan out...ugh. I hope it works out. I need something more.
I will let you know the dirty details later...

Speaking of dirty. This feather was nestled in the grass next to a newly uncovered {from ice} sidewalk, I'm not sure about where you live but here that means a lot of sand, salt residue and garbage...I got down on my knees and elbows on the sidewalk, with my behind stuck up in the air, to get this shot at the desired angle. The sidewalk is on a busy street with four lanes of traffic. I imagine more than one person wondered if I was insane or hurt...Though no one asked...I got down in the dirt for this one...I don't mind getting dirty. A career in the trades would be a good fit I think...

My camera allows me to do strange things without being judged too harshly. It is THE perfect accessory for being a little strange...

Friday Evening Drive

This may make me sound a BORE...But I love to spend my Friday nights next to the radio.
Alone.
I like to listen to music alone...If people are around I want to talk, to connect.
Tuned to CBC Radio 2 if at home, or bouncing between channels if driving.
Friday night brings out the best musically in these stations...
Radio 2 Drive with Rich Terfry, Tonic with Tim Tamamshiro, and House of Blues with Elwood Blues {picked up by a local radio station}.
Driving last evening with the wonderful soundtrack, the beautiful skies and my camera {which I've taken a keen interest in again...} was perfection.
I think my magical mojo is slipping back into my soul...

A Tutorial For Contrary Photographer Types {and a giveaway for the same type...}

If you are like me, you carry your camera around your neck while walking or climbing...And it bounces around, and if you are like me again, it drives you crazy! I walk with my arm slung over my camera to keep it from bruising my ribs...
And so I made this little gadget to Stop the Swing!
You will need...

A bolt to fit into your tripod mount. I am not sure if it is standard but the 1/4" hex cap screw that I used fits all my cameras. I used stainless steel and it is 1/2" long.
A 1/4" stainless steel hex nut.
A ring terminal, the hole size is 1/4".
A strong 2" Alligator clip.
A hair elastic {a piece of string or ribbon if you want no stretch or something flashy and pretty!}.

Scissors.
Pliers.
Screwdriver {if your alligator has a screw in it...}
Lighter.
A toothpick or pointed object helps with getting the elastic through the holes in the alligator clip.

Burn the ends of the elastic and it will not fray as you work it through the holes...

Tie a knot, pull until the knot is against the inside of the clip. The tail that is left sticking out can be poked into the tube to make it neat...This is where I used a tooth pick and pliers...

Take the other {melted} elastic end and twist it into the insulated end of the ring terminal...Mine went in quite easily. Crimp and tug on the elastic to make sure it is VERY secure...Cameras are not worth the risk!

Attach to your jacket, belt or button hole and check to see if the length needs to be adjusted. Adjustments need to be made from the alligator clip side...I'd love to see this made with a lockable retractable lanyard but I couldn't find one. The alligator clip works really well because it can be removed quickly for fast shooting! Be careful of the fabric you attach it to though because it can leave tooth marks...

I have an extra one or two and the first people to say they'd like one, will get one, from me, in the post. Just let me know in the comments!

I hope this is something you can use...
It is also good if you happen to carry two cameras around your throat, it can hold one slightly off centre...
