Why My New Year Started This Week...

A Tale of Horror...
{in which words do no justice}

This house came with it's tenants. Two, both on Social Assistance, both with mental health problems. I was okay with that, even understand it, and for the most part of 5 years they gave me no issues.

The Woman above me had Bi-polar and FAS. She fought to get on her feet. She came off Social Assistance and got a full time job. She always came down the night before rent was due and put the money into my hand. Christmas 2009 she gave me Quality Street chocolates and my Father a gift card. She ended a bad relationship. She was acquiring things to make her apartment more comfortable, a new table and chairs, a wee electric fireplace, a tiny deep freezer. She had a cat that she adored. She was fighting to stay self-reliant and happy. She died accidentally in November.

The Man who lived in the top floor was schizophrenic and full of conspiracy theories. He was completely unpredictable. He was always, always, dragging things home after nights of dumpster diving. His vehicle was completely packed. He would come home at 4am with refrigerator doors tied to the roof, broken shovels, beat up furniture, junk of all kinds and sorts. I have had problems with the city because of the junk and garbage he piled under the fire escape. My Father and I spent a lot of time cleaning up and carting his messes to the landfill. Last September he verbally assaulted me in front of my home...The things he said were completely and utterly insane. I went to the police. They told me they were "reactive not proactive"...I went to the Residential Tenancies board and began the paperwork to have him evicted. He stopped paying his small {but very essential to the mortgage} rent in November. Last week I was able to change the locks and take back my house. Almost five months of stress and arguments and craziness. Finished. Except now the clean out. My Father and I have already removed one dumpster full from his 600 square foot apartment, this is after he spent over a week bringing items to his new apartment...There is still more to remove. Unbelievable! This is why my building is now "Smoke Free" {everything that was on the walls could be put back exactly where it hung, the walls are so smoke stained} and why I will never buy a place with "tenants included" again...As a landlord doing things the right and legal way I have been abused, frustrated and a little scared for months.

So my dears this is one of the reasons why I have been so unproductive these last months...Why I have complained about 2010 {This on top of all the deaths of beloved people in my life}.

And why my New Year has started late...

So...

Happy New Year my Friends!
Have a drink, toast to freedom.

I needed to cleanse the old year as well. Stress and worry can be debilitating things. I hope you are able to breathe easier and deeper now.
Here is to a New Year!!

Wow! I'm glad that situation is finally settled. That would sure cause alot of stress. I too would never buy a house with people included. My friend's brother did this, and he ended up with a house full of drug addicts, which he couldn't get rid of.
Well, Happy New Year to you, enjoy :-)

Thank you so much everyone...I was not sure if I should have shared this or not...My Mother says this is the "G" rated version of the actual events! :)
I cleaned up a little in my backyard today without looking over my shoulder or jumping at every noise! It was nice.
XO
Have a wonderful week!
