Shelter Cats

Mr. Muggs @ the Humane Society

Yesterday I visited the cats at the Humane Society.
I would be a Vet if I had the guts. But I don't...

Ball of Fluff
Crewes...
Sheltered?
Beyond the Whiskers

I have so much to say about this that I cannot utter a word! {if you click on the photos you'll get an idea from the flickr descriptions...}

this is just sad, I clicked on each photo to see your description....
you asked why these animals end up dumped? because we live in a disposable society, we have no problem dumping our animals when they are no longer convenient. Yes I know sometimes there may be a good reason, like someone falls ill and can no longer look after their pet. I wrote on my blog recently of a woman who had a family of cats for 7 years, and got herself a new boyfriend who didn't want cats in the house. She took these cats that had always lived indoors, and dumped them outside, to please her new boyfriend.
It's nice that you go visit them at the shelter, but sad that there are so many that will never find new homes :-(

I have so much to say about this too, where to start. Look who's suffering, not the people that allowed these animals to be born, even the Persian that was intentionally bred. I look at the whole mess as selfishness. I worked in the pet industry for thirty years but it seems the worst of it is right now. Lots of people that found themselves out of work have decided to become dog and cat breeders for a quick buck, all the while people are loosing their homes and walking away from their pets.
My best friend just adopted a dog that was living on the porch of a foreclosed home. Can you imaging driving away with the kids and leaving the family dog? No, NEVER EVER!

I know it's heartbreaking. These photos are gorgeous. What a beautiful calendar they would make for the shelter. They all have story inside just waiting to be told. We adopted 2 cats and our dog from the shelter, I would take them all if i could....thanks for spreading the word...ADOPT!!! xxoo

I have a very emotional response to abandoned cats or dogs or any creature, and turn into a blubbering blob. It is a huge responsibility to bring a living creature into ones life. People take it too lightly. Says something about our society. Beautiful cats.
